I have been programmed with Tchaikovsky before, most likely because of my Slavic ancestry. But when I discovered that Aram Demirjian, the artistic director of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, programed the upcoming premiere of my Watercolors alongside Scriabin’s piano concerto, my heart skipped a beat. Scriabin was well known for his experimentation with colors and harmony influenced by his synesthesia, and if we were contemporaries, I’m sure we would have much to talk about.
