I am discussing the concept of limitation in the context of artistic freedom. When I am faced with the whiteness of my creative page, I like to set limiting parameters before I begin my work. Choosing to limit my creative output can bring focus and direction. The following are a few examples of the concept of limitation:
1. Georgia O’Keeffe uses soft and wavy curves in her paintings (example: Flower of Life II)
2. Claude Debussy focuses on the pentatonic and the octatonic scales in his compositions.
3. The game of chess limits the movements of the pieces both collectively and individually.
