“Submerged” is one of my early compositions for piano solo. Ever since a pianist friend played for me “The Sunken Cathedral” by Claude Debussy in ninth grade, I felt enchanted and inspired by the feeling of calm and mystery the piece evoked. I was hoping to create the same emotion in my composition. The piece is characterized by long stretches of the sustain pedal and absence of rests – the sound fills every crevice and floods the space as if with water.

A very beautiful piece, which goes a step beyond Debussy in its use of colourful discords.
