I created this series of paintings in 2007 while I was working as a technical illustrator for patent attorneys. By day, my world was constrained by black and white utilitarian drafting obeying the laws of perspective and trigonometry, but by night, I could create my own world restrained only by my imagination. I started to explore the science of fractals but approached them from the abstract perspective. Utilizing three different software packages, suddenly I could explore the freedom of movement, outrageous colors, delicacy and energy. People who couldn’t care less about art and who didn’t know how to spell “expressionism”, suddenly found themselves enchanted with my artwork and didn’t mind telling me about it. I was very encouraged by their response and felt that I was going in the right direction. This series looks great on paper, as well as canvas.
