Reflections on Art and Life

But If You Must Fly Away

But if you must fly away
Spread your featherless wings
Believing
The meek shall inherit the Earth

The sunbaked fields lie fallow
Unbroken horses
Wild with defiance
Of unharnessed boys
Away from home

But men are made
With blistery plows
In Godforsaken lands
Days into weeks
Weeks into months
Months into seasons

Carcasses of dreams
By the wayside
The Earth is holding its breath
Till a faint seedling
Shivers in the wind
