Tangled breaths of water nymphs
Waves’ incessant moans
Intertwined in endless
Ebbs and flows
Nothing satisfies let me
Stay let me go
Neither food nor
Sleep comfort wordless angsts
As if words could
Soothe nameless yearnings
Yes but no
And what if
The heart longs for
That which exists not
Aches to give
That which it has not
Neither matter nor
Space ever widening
Can separate or join
Soul’s vital flaw
Nothing satisfies

Queens Envied Me My Joys
If Not With You, My Heart is Nowhere
My Most Wretched Soul
I am very excited to introduce my new composition for chamber orchestra entitled Three Laments of Heloise. The Laments were inspired by the Letters of Abelard and Heloise I read this spring. I was deeply [...]

Heaven or Earth?
Day or night?
Water or air?
Neither
Just the horizon
Cradling the face
Of stillness
I walk blindly
Knowing less
Hearing anew
Feeling
Truly
Unreservedly
Barefacedly

Cold stone wrought iron
Flow my tears
Ancient dripping stalactites
Coarse wood kneelers
Silver goblets
Marble fountain pen holders
Deliver me from
The city of rubber
Fluorescent light
And processed cheese
Nameless bricklayers
Of gothic cathedrals
Rest my bones
Celibate scribes
Of the Dark Ages
Blood of the martyrs
Deliver me from
Disposable words
Drive through religion
And paradise on demand

But if you must fly away
Spread your featherless wings
Believing
The meek shall inherit the Earth
The sunbaked fields lie fallow
Unbroken horses
Wild with defiance
Of unharnessed boys
Away from home
But men are made
With blistery plows
In Godforsaken lands
Days into weeks
Weeks into months
Months into seasons
Carcasses of dreams
By the wayside
The Earth is holding its breath
Till a faint seedling
Shivers in the wind

Several years ago I was in need of some mindless decompression and so I went to the movie theater to see a popular at that time chick flick The Devil Wears Prada. Perhaps the Prada story itself could serve as a topic for another post, but for now I would like to focus [...]

Promise me
That you will not outgrow
Running barefoot
In the summer rain
When the world
Spits out
Its schizophrenic songs
Listen to the nakedness
Of your heart
And dance till sunrise
Promise me
That you will not cower in the storm
The hail will pound
Till numbness
Promise me you won’t let go
Be not afraid to feel
The howling of the wind
Inside your soul
And sing till daybreak
Promise me
That you [...]

Mysteries are unpolished gems
Unapprised treasures
For a discerning collector incognito
Everyone else
Wants a piece of the pie
But he deciphers
The recipe for its fragrance
Once a year the coveted flower
Blooms in secret
He will risk his life to find it
Those who know everything
Know nothing at all
Those who know nothing
Stuff their bellies
Till they feel satisfied
Those who are unsatisfied
Set sail for a [...]

I thought I would experiment with combining my abstract painting with music. The video features 10 of my paintings and the soundtrack is one of my electronic compositions entitled Thousands of Tears.

All my days have been written
In your book
Before any came to be
And then you gave me
The chisel and a hammer
To carve them out
From the silence of a boulder
I am weighed down
By the gravel in my pockets
Dust mingles with sweat
I can no longer see
Or hear anything
But the incessant clashes
Of dull metal against my bones
Oh, what I [...]

Between grayness of daybreak
And fleshness of a morning
Between already
And not yet
Between being
And existing
Lie subtleties and nuances
A pale hand of a geisha
Pours amber
Into a tiny tea cup
It’s not about thirst
Speak to me in parables
Or better yet
Don’t speak at all
The sparseness of words
Gives me second sight

Be still my soul
What is your unfurling?
Your trembling
Your flutter?
What is your ache?
A void that’s ever empty
What is your shape
That I may fill it?
Chords unstrummed?
Songs unsung?
Words unspoken?
Colors unseen?
A flock of gees
Captured in perpetual takeoff
You have startled
The stillness of the pond
Marred it with ripples
Your wings
Water shedding
Gasping for air
Hungrily
Ecstatically
Forcefully
What is your haste?
Is now not enough?
Is here not plenty?
Run, [...]

You used to know everything
In even rows and columns
Effort times distance equals destination
Page eighty nine
The second paragraph on the right
In black and white
Exhibit A illustrates
A median average
Expected outcome
Law and order
Fill the prescription
And choose to be
Somewhat satisfied
Mostly satisfied
Totally satisfied
Now you don’t know anything
So you tread softly
And feel your way around
An unfamiliar territory
How does a hand of [...]

Almighty God
Breath of Life
Receive this timid sigh
Of unorthodox authorship
As I seem to have lost
My leather-bound prayer book
On the way through
A mirrored corridor
Of a revolving kaleidoscope
All-Seeing
Omniscient One
What is shuffling inside
But myriads of patterns
Of motives off-centered
Ends untied
Thoughts uncombed
Words unrefined
Nothing in my hands I bring
But this awkward litany
Of promises unkept
Fears unshed
Debts unpaid
Tears withheld
Doubts festering
Noise cluttering
Treasures pawned
Truths disowned
Father of [...]

I will not be still
In the presence of eternity
Breathing into a fleeting moment
Blessed be the pleasures of the mind
The symmetry of the Universe
And the anticipation of a kiss
Of the immaculate conception
Oh, what is a frail human
To command the world
To resonate in concentric circles
To govern the ebb and flow of the soul
Everblooming overflowing
Effervescent lifesprings
Of invisible colors [...]
